Giacomo Aula (born March 28, 1967 in Lagonegro , Potenza ) is an Italian jazz pianist .

Aula had classical piano lessons from Maria Martino . After studying Afro-American music in Turin , he went to Siena , where he qualified as a jazz pianist with Stefano Battaglia , as a jazz orchestra musician with Bruno Tommaso and as a musicologist with Marcello Piras and Stefano Zenni . He then studied electronics and electroacoustic music at the Politecnico di Torino until 1994 .

In 1997 he appeared in a trio with Eliot Zigmund and Daniele Esposito . He then became a member of the Orchestra Nazionale Giovanile Italiana , where he had the opportunity to work with musicians such as James Newton , Salvatore Tranchini , Bruno Tommaso, Peter Erskine , Enrico Rava , Palle Danielsson , Pietro Tonolo , Rudy Migliardi , Gianluigi Trovesi , John Taylor , Mario Raja , Giancarlo Gazzani , Lorenzo Petrocca , Tony Mann , Eugenio Colombo , Ettore Fioravanti , Giancarlo Schiaffini , Paolo Fresu , Emanuele Cisi and Lee Konitz .

Aula works regularly with Larry Schneider , with whom he has released several albums. As a sideman, he worked on recordings of Horace Silver , Bill Evans , Thad Jones and Mel Lewis .

Aula teaches piano at the Scuola Musicae Fabri di Montiglio d'Asti and the Scuola Civica di Bardonecchia in Turin and at Siena Jazz .
