Lorenzo Petrocca (born February 18, 1964 in Crotone , Italy ) is a German jazz musician ( guitar ).

Live and act

In 1979, when he was fifteen, Petrocca emigrated to Germany with his family, where he began boxing. In 1981 he became the Württemberg boxing champion in his weight class. When he was eighteen he bought his first electric guitar. Soon he played with Italian dance bands, from 1986 in soul and funk bands with American soldiers.

The autodidact only discovered jazz in 1989 at the age of 25. In 1995 he made his debut album Insieme , on which the harmonica player Bruno De Filippi participated. Petrocca received honorary citizenship of the city of New Orleans in April 2001 after a week-long tour of Louisiana . In 2011 his album My Music , on which only his own compositions can be heard, was awarded the “Archtop-Germany CD of the Year 2011” award.

In addition to ten CD productions by his own bands, he has been involved as a sideman in over 30 recording sessions since 1993 . a. with Ack van Rooyen , Jiggs Whigham , Monty Alexander , Martin Drew and Gianni Basso . Petrocca currently heads the Lorenzo Petrocca Organ Trio (Thomas Bauser (org), Armin Fischer (dr)) and the Lorenzo Petrocca Quartet (Andy Herrmann (p), Jens Loh (kb), Armin Fischer (dr)). In his latest project, the Italian Organ Trio , Petrocca, together with Alberto Marsico (org) and Tommy Bradascio (dr), dedicates himself to his own compositions as well as the Canzoni Italiane.
