Nicolas Folmer (born October 26, 1976 in Albertville ) is a French jazz trumpeter.

Folmer is considered one of the best young French jazz trumpeters (2007). From 1997 to 1999 he was a member of the “ Orchester National de Jazz ” under the direction of Didier Levallet (albums ONJ Express , Séquences , Deep Feelings ). In 1999 he founded the “ Paris Jazz Big Band ” with the tenor saxophonist Pierre Bertrand . He is also co-founder of “ NoJazz ” (with saxophonist Philippe Selam). He is also a sought-after sideman who has accompanied Charles Aznavour , Claude Nougaro , Dee Dee Bridgewater , Diana Krall and Natalie Cole and with Sylvain Beuf , George Russell , Laurent Cugny , Riccardo Del Fra , Lucky Peterson / Wynton Marsalis ( Live from Jazz in Marciac ) played.

His debut album I comme Icare ( Cristal Records 2004, with André Ceccarelli , the pianist Alfio Origlio , the bassist Ira Coleman , the saxophonist and flutist Stéphane Guillaume ) was followed in 2006 by Fluide (Cristal, with the pianist Pierre-Alain Goualch , the drummers Stéphane Huchard and Thomas Grimmonprez and bassist Jérôme Regard ). On several albums he documented his collaboration with Michel Legrand , Bob Mintzer , Daniel Humair and Michel Portal . In 2015 and 2016 his fusion albums Horny Tonky and The Horny Tonky Experience were released .

In 2005 he received both the Django d'Or as “New Talent” and at the same time as leader of the Paris Jazz Big Band with Pierre Bertrand.
