Sylvain Beuf
Sylvain Beuf (* 6. April 1964 in Paris ) is a French jazz - saxophonist , composer and arranger.
Life
Beuf first had a classical education at the École nationale de Musique d' Orsay (where he received a gold medal in saxophone and chamber music in 1984), then studied jazz at the CIM School of Jazz in Paris with a degree in jazz. In 1987 he started working as a professional musician. He played z. B. with the Gérard Badini Big Band ("Mr. Swing meets Claude Debussy" 1991, Mantra), Aldo Romano , Martial Solal , Daniel Humair , the André Ceccarelli Quartet, the group "Océan" and René Urtreger . In 1993 he recorded his first record ("Impro Primo" with Bojan Z. ); In 1997 he played in the Ocean Quartet with Isabelle Olivier, Benoît Dunoyer de Segonzac and Antoine Banville. Beuf regularly plays with his trio and quintet (including Manuel Rocheman ) at French and non-European festivals and has also released several albums with his groups (including "Soul Notes" 2001 by Naïve). In 2001 he realized the production "Octovoice" with a trio and vocal quintet in the cultural center of Athis-Mons, which he also released as an album in 2004 (on the Naïve label, with Emmanuel Bex and Louis Moutin ). This was followed in 2002 by “L'approche tellurique” for jazz sextet and in 2003 by “Vocalys” for vocal ensemble and orchestra. In 2004 he realized his work “Paris-Kiev Express” in Kiev , followed by the album “Mondes Parallèles” in 2007.
He plays alto, soprano and tenor saxophone, flute and clarinet. Beuf teaches at CIM, the Conservatory of the 9th Arrondissement of Paris, where he leads a big band, in Lisieux and gives master classes.
Prizes and awards
In 1994 Beuf received the Django d´Or as the best young talent (for his first album "Impro Primo") and in 1993 the Prix Django Reinhardt . In 2000 he was awarded Les Victoires de la Musique (the French counterpart to Echo ) as a young jazz talent 2000.
