Manu Codjia
Emmanuel "Manu" Codjia (born September 25, 1975 in Chaumont near Dijon ) is a French jazz and fusion musician ( guitar , composition ). Along with Marc Ducret and Nguyên Lê, he is one of the most influential guitarists of the genre in France.
Live and act
Codijia, the son of French- Ivorian parents, began playing the guitar when he was ten. He took classical lessons, but also got to know the central jazz guitarists through his teacher. At fifteen he played in local rock bands. At the age of 18 he went to Paris, where he studied at the National Conservatory from 1994 to 2000 . At the jazz competition of La Défense in 1999 he played in several bands with which he took the top spots.
Paolo Damiani brought him to the Orchester National de Jazz immediately after graduating . Daniel Humair , Erik Truffaz and Henri Texier , who included him in his Strada Sextet , also noticed his talent early on. He also played with Christophe Wallemme , Christophe Monniot , Matthieu Donarin, Gueorgui Kornazov, Rémi Vignolo , Simon Goubert , Christian Lété , Michel Benita and Chris Jennings . Since 2007 he has released albums under his own name. In 2015 he won the BMW Welt Jazz Award with his trio . He also belongs to the quintet Sfumatu by Émile Parisien . For All About Jazz he is one of the most original fusion guitarists.
