Sainte-Opportune-la-Mare is a North French town and one from the main town and several individual farms (fermes) existing community with 440 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Normandy .

location

The town of Sainte-Opportune-la-Mare is located in the Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Nature Park about 32 km (driving distance) east of Honfleur at an altitude of about 120  m . There are numerous lakes (étangs) in the municipality . The climate is largely characterized by the sea and therefore frost-free; Rain (approx. 770 mm / year) falls throughout the year.

The slight increase in population since the 1950s is mainly due to the relative proximity to the major cities of Rouen and Le Havre .

economy

In the lower areas of the community, livestock farming (milk, cheese, meat) traditionally played the main role; Fields and fruit tree cultivation (apples, pears, cherries) were carried out on the higher areas. Vegetables were sown and harvested in the home gardens.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1025; A few years later the church is mentioned under the name Sancte Opportune Exnutriville - it was consecrated to the Carolingian abbess Opportuna von Séez († 770). The addition la mare , added in the early 20th century, goes back to a Norman clan resident here , whose etymological traces can also be traced in England , Sicily , Campania , Apulia and Calabria .
