Quillebeuf-sur-Seine is a French commune with 870 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Eure in the region of Normandy ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Bernay and the canton of Bourg-Achard . history
The place name was first mentioned in 1025 as Cheliboey or Cheliboy . The origin of the first part of the place name is not known. The Germanic suffix -beuf is derived from both or buth and means ' Bude '.
After an official Reformed church was established in Rouen in 1557 and in Évreux in 1559 , Quillebeuf-sur-Seine followed suit. The Protestant church in Quillebeuf existed until the Edict of Nantes was repealed with the Edict of Fontainebleau in 1685. The former capital of the Roumois was destroyed in the course of the Huguenot Wars in 1562, so the oldest house dates back to the 16th century. In return, Henry IV (1553–1610) granted the boatmen from Quillebeuf and Caudebec-en-Caux the privilege of acting as pilots for the seagoing ships that had to be directed up to Rouen.
In 1674, the city was at the center of the failed conspiracy of Governor Louis de Rohan against the king.
In 1910 Quillebeuf added sur-Seine to the place name .
During the Second World War (1939-1945) Quillebeuf-sur-Seine was bombed by the Allied Air Force between June 6 and July 10, 1944 during Operation Overlord .
