Livet-sur-Authou is a commune of 150 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Eure in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the canton of Brionne .

geography

Livet-sur-Authou is located on the eastern edge of the Lieuvin , 16 kilometers northeast of Bernay and 5.2 kilometers northwest of Brionne , between the neighboring communities of Brétigny in the southeast, Authou in the northeast and Saint-Benoît-des-Ombres in the northwest. The Authou was the name of a part of a watercourse that is now called La Croix Blanche after a leprosy near Livet-sur-Authou and in Authou it is only called le torrent ('the torrent'). It is only after it has passed Authou that the people still call it Authou today. However, this name of the watercourse is La Croix Blanche along its entire length on the website of the Office national de l'eau ('National Water Authority') .

Livet-sur-Authou is one of the municipalities in the Eure department where there are so-called Marnières . These are old marl pits that have been poorly filled with rubble. They can open after heavy rain, when the debris filling is washed into the side passages. During the storms in December 1999 floods occurred in Livet-sur-Authou, which are related to the special nature of the clayey soil.

Livet-sur-Authou is assigned to a climate zone of type Cfb (according to Köppen and Geiger ): warm, moderate rainy climate (C), fully humid (f), warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C (b). There is a maritime climate with a moderate summer.

history

Livet-sur-Authou was first mentioned as Liveht 1170 in the copial book of the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Préaux in Les Préaux , later it was mentioned there as Liveth and Liveit .

The place name part Livet goes back to the contraction of the article Le with the French word for yew , if , and the Gallo-Roman ending etu ( -et, -ey or -ay in French). The word if goes back to the Gallic root word ivos or the Germanic root word īwa .

Duke Richard II of Normandy (966-1027) gave the entire "Forest of Vièvre" to his uncle Raoul d'Ivry († after 1015). The present municipality of Livet-sur-Authou also belonged to this forest. The subsequent Seigneurs of Livet took the name of the village and are mentioned as such until the 14th century. In the first half of the 15th century, the lands belonged to Livet Jean du Bosc, the then Seigneur of Brétigny and Authou . At the beginning of the 16th century they belonged to Charles le Boucher, then Charles Le Cousturier, who was convicted of arrogance in 1666. He was forbidden to claim that you were noble when you weren't. Even so, Livet remained in the family's possession. 1760 had Scipio Le Franc Le Cousturier near the Church of Livet a mansion . Before the French Revolution (1789–1799), Jean-Jacques Régis de Cambacérès (1753–1824) was the last owner of the lands of Livet. These lands consisted mainly of forest rich in game. After his death, the lands were sold to the politician Jean Rondeaux. Rondeaux's grandson, the historian Arthur Join-Lambert (1839–1917), had today's castle built from 1879 according to plans by the architect Juste Lisch (1828–1910) in a style reminiscent of medieval construction. He also created an English landscape garden around the castle .

In 1793, Livet-sur-Authou received the status of a municipality as Livet sur Authon in the course of the French Revolution and in 1801 the right to local self-government through the municipality reform under Napoleon Bonaparte .
