history

In 1065 Gilbertus Crispinus (1046–1117) gave the town to the Abbey of Le Bec . The abbot of Le Bec held the church patronage until the French Revolution (1789–1799). Le Theil-Nolent was under the abbey of Bec as a barony until the 18th century. The place name was first mentioned in 1183 as Tylia in a document from Heinrich II and, according to Walther von Wartburg , arose from the dialect word part for the French word tilleul (' linden tree ').

Around 1774 there was a fiefdom called Montpoignant in Le Theil-Nolent , which was not under the Abbey of Le Bec, but under the Seigneurie of the same name in Saint-Ouen-de-Pontcheuil . The abbey gave away its feudal claim to Le Theil-Nolent in the 18th century.

In 1793 Le Theil-Nolent received the status of a municipality as Le Theil Nocent in the course of the French Revolution and in 1801 under its current name through the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte the right to local self-government .

It was not until 1890 that a building was erected to house the Mairie and the village school. The teacher also lived there. Before that, a “guard house” was used as a makeshift mairie. The local Confrérie de Charité was also housed there.
