Saint-Mards-de-Fresne is located about sixteen kilometers east-southeast of Lisieux in the Pays d'Auge . Saint-Mards-de-Fresne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Le Planquay in the north and north-west, Saint-Vincent-du-Boulay in the north and north-east, Plainville in the east, Capelle-les-Grands in the south, and Saint-Germain-la-Campagne in the south and south-west and Courtonne-les-Deux-Églises in the west.

The A28 autoroute runs along the eastern edge of the municipality .
