The Regional Nature Park Boucles de la Seine Normande ( "grinding of the Seine in Normandy ") is located between the cities of Le Havre and Rouen in the department Eure and Seine-Maritime in the northern French region of Normandy. The park administration is based in a 16th century mansion in Notre-Dame-de-Bliquetuit (Seine-Maritime).

The park, which today extends over approx. 81,000 hectares and 72 communities with approx. 58,000 inhabitants, was called "Regionaler Naturpark Brotonne" from its foundation in 1974 to 2001. It includes the moor ( Marais-Vernier ) and three state forests .

nature

The loops of the Seine have a length of 180 kilometers between Rouen and the confluence with the English Channel at Honfleur . The shore landscapes are partly hilly , partly flat or characterized by orchards . The river valley , which is very narrow in many places, created a microclimate that favors fruit growing . The north of the nature park is characterized by the chalk plateau of the Pays de Caux . There you can still find the typically Norman Clos-masures , small farms with a thatched main house, adjoining orchards and hedges (sharks) that surround the property. The south of the nature park is in the Roumois , where the bocage landscape turns into flat land , which is mainly used for agriculture and cattle breeding.

The special importance of the park lies in its brackish water zones in the mouth of the Seine, its moor meadows, natural ponds and river valleys. The "Vernier-Moor" (Marais Vernier) lies in a former loop of the Seine that is no longer connected to the river. It is about 4,500 acres.

Attractions

In the state forest Forêt de Brotonne are the castles Château d'Ételan , Château d'Yville-sur-Seine , the former abbeys Abbey Jumièges , Abbey of Saint Wandrille , Abbey of Saint-Georges-de-Boscherville , the late Gothic church of Caudebec-en- Caux as well as the mill of Hauville and a museum village. The Musée de Pomme (“Apple Museum ”) in Sainte-Opportune-la-Mare and the Maison du Lin (“House of Linen ”) in Routot are also worth mentioning.
