Matthieu Donarian (* 1976 in Nantes ) is a French jazz musician ( tenor and soprano saxophone , clarinet , bass clarinet ).

Life

Matthieu Donarian first learned the clarinet before switching to the saxophone as a teenager. After attending the Conservatory in Rennes , he moved to Paris to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur (CNSM). Even before his graduation in 1998, he founded the Matthieu Donarian Trio with the guitarist Manu Codjia and the drummer Joe Quitzke . In 1999 the trio was awarded first prize at the Concours de La Défense . After touring Europe, the Middle East and Canada, he has been a member of the Yolk music collective in Nantes since 2006 , where he released his trio album Optic Topic . In addition to his trio, Donarian also worked with Poline Renou, the Ensemble ZAR, Sébastien Boisseau , Daniel Humair ( Baby Boom , 2002), Patrice Caratini and Stephan Oliva , Stéphane Kerecki and Gábor Gadó , as well as in the ensembles Le Sacre du Tympan and Le Gros Cube . The album Longboard: Being Wild , which he presented with Alban Darche and Meivelyan Jacquot, was nominated for the award of the Jazz Journalists Association in the category “Best Album Art” 2020.
