Pierre de Bethmann

Pierre de Bethmann (* 1961 in Boulogne-Billancourt ) is a French jazz pianist .

Life

De Bethmann had piano lessons from the age of six. In addition to his training as a classical and jazz pianist, he graduated from the École supérieure de commerce de Paris ( ESCP ) in 1987 . In 1989 he studied for a year at Berklee College of Music in Boston .

From 1990 to 1994 de Bethmann worked as a management consultant. After he founded the Prysm group with Christophe Wallemme and Benjamin Henocq in 1994 and won first prize at the Concours National de Jazz de La Défense , in 1995 he decided to pursue a career as a professional musician. The group, which broke up in 2001, gave about fifty concerts annually, toured North America and Japan and recorded four albums on Blue Note Records .

In 2001 he founded the quintet ilium , with which he recorded two albums and which he expanded to a septet in 2006. In addition, de Bethmann worked regularly as a sideman a. a. with the Moutin Reunion Quartet by Louis and François Moutin , with David El Malek , Michael Felberbaum , Laïka , Christophe Dal Sasso , Thomas Savy , Stéphane Huchard , Olivier Ker Ourio , Pierrick Pedron and Jean-Christophe Béney , and occasionally with Eddie Henderson , Aldo Romano , Philip Catherine , François Jeanneau , Rick Margitza , Éric Le Lann , Stéphane Belmondo , Patrice Caratini , Stefano Di Battista , Flavio Boltro , Rosario Giuliani , Sylvain Beuf , François Théberge , Julien Lourau , Norma Winstone , Sara Lazarus , Pierre Perchaud and others .

He teaches at the Conservatoire National de Montpellier and at the Center des Musiques Didier Lockwood . In 2004 he received the Prix ​​Django Reinhardt .
