Benoît Widemann

Benoît Widemann (* 1957 ) is a French fusion musician ( piano , synthesizer , music ) and computer scientist . He was first known as a member of the band Magma , before he released albums under his own name. He wrote numerous software programs for the Macintosh and other Apple products.

Live and act

Widemann played with Magma in December 1974 at the age of 17 and was a member of the band until 1982. In June 1975 he was involved as keyboardist on the album Live / Hhaï together with Christian Vander and Didier Lockwood ; the studio albums Üdü Ẁüdü (1976), Attahk (1977) and Merci (1984) followed. Between 1977 and 1988 he also appeared regularly with Dan Ar Braz and was involved in all of his albums.

In 1977 he released his first album under his own name, Stress! , which also included keyboardists Patrick Gauthier and Jean-Pierre Fouquey, guitarist Patrice Tison, bassist Guy Delacroix and drummer Clément Bailly. In 1979 his second album, Tsunami , was released with saxophonist Gilbert Dall'Anese , pianist Jean-Pierre Fouquey, bassist Rémy Dall'Anese and drummers Jean-Paul and André Ceccarelli . His album 3 followed in 1983 with bassists Sylvain Marc and Dominique Bertram, drummers Kirt Rust and François Laizeau and Gilles Perrin (percussion).

In 2005 he played several concerts with his ex-colleagues from Magma , which were documented on two DVDs. Since 2009 he has been part of the band Klaus House (around Klaus Blasquiz), with whom he recorded the album Moods (2017). Between 2011 and 2014 he led his Benoît Widemann Quartet with Olivier Louvel (guitar), Gilles Coquard (bass) and Nicolas Viccaro (drums). He can also be heard on albums by Aldo Romano , Jean-Michel Kajdan , Maxime Le Forestier and Éric Séva .

In addition, he worked as an independent software developer and consultant and wrote programs such as JoliWrite, JoliTerm, JoliPhone / Notebook, MidiControl, MacSnail, FinderHelper, EuroGlyph, GWrite, AliasMenu, AliasKeys, RapidCal and RapidScript .
