Jannick Top
Jannick Yves Top (born October 4, 1947 in Marseille ) is a French fusion musician (bass, cello, arrangement, composition).
Life
Top received a classical education at the music high school in Marseille, where he deepened the subjects piano, cello and orchestral conducting. After repeatedly representing a friend who was a bassist at concerts, he devoted himself to playing the bass guitar and the double bass . In 1971 he founded the group Troc together with drummer André Ceccarelli , which presented their album of the same name the following year. For several years he played with Christian Vander , in whose group Magma he was initially better known and for which he also composed. With Vander he also played in the groups Vandertop and Fusion before going his own way.
Since the 1980s he has increasingly accompanied chanson singers such as Michel Berger , France Gall , Nicole Rieu , Jacques Dutronc , Sylvie Vartan , Jacques Higelin and Bernard Lavilliers . He also worked with Johnny Hallyday , Michel Portal , Jean-Louis Chautemps , Daniel Humair and Éric Le Lann , but also with Ray Charles , Herbie Hancock , Eurythmics , Bonnie Tyler , Lalo Schifrin , Don Cherry ( Home Boy / Sister Out ), Ute Lemper and repeatedly with Ennio Morricone . After a single (1975), a live album from 1999 and a collection of older recordings ( Soleil d'Ork ), it was not until 2008 that he presented a regular studio album under his own name, Infernal Machina .
He created the music for several films by Pierre Jolivet , but also for productions by Nicolas Hulot and the television series Navarro (together with Serge Perathoner ).
