Michel Berger
Michel Berger ( actually Michel-Jean Hamburger ; born November 28, 1947 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , † August 2, 1992 in Ramatuelle ) was a French singer and composer .
Life
Berger was the son of the doctor Jean Hamburger and his wife Annette Haas-Hamburger.
Berger became known from 1959 in the era of the French radio program Salut les copains on Europe 1 . He discovered Véronique Sanson and composed for Françoise Hardy . He also wrote an album for Johnny Hallyday . In 1976 he married France Gall and wrote several albums for them. With her he has a daughter (1978–1997) and a son (* 1981).
In 1978 Berger composed the rock opera Starmania with texts by Luc Plamondon . This rock opera, in which France Gall, Daniel Balavoine and Diane Dufresne participated, enjoyed great success and was performed again with a different line-up in the 1990s. An English version called "Tycoon" was created in 1991.
A few weeks after he had released an album with duets with his wife France Gall, Michel Berger died on August 2, 1992 at the age of 44 of a heart attack after playing tennis . He is buried in the Montmartre cemetery in Paris . His daughter Pauline Hamburger, who died of cystic fibrosis in December 1997 at the age of 19, was buried next to him .
