Callie Khouri (actually: Carolyn Ann Khouri ; born November 27, 1957 in San Antonio , Texas , USA ) is an American screenwriter , film director and film producer .

Life

Callie Khouri grew up in her home state of Texas, but also in Kentucky . Initially, she planned to study landscape architecture and enrolled at Purdue University . But Khouri quickly realized that she wanted to try film, so she moved to Los Angeles in 1982 to study drama at the Strasburg Institute there.

In the early years of her career, Khouri worked as an assistant in the production of various music videos until her breakthrough came overnight in 1991. For her screenplay for the drama Thelma & Louise , her film debut as a writer and producer, she received an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award in 1992 .

In 2002, Khouri also made her debut as a feature film director with the comedy The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisters .

In 2004 Khouri was a potential candidate for the post of director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban , but was defeated by the Mexican Alfonso Cuarón . Since 2012 she has worked as a screenwriter and director on the ABC series Nashville .

She was married to film producer David W. Warfield since May 1990 . In 2006 she married the music producer T-Bone Burnett for the second time .
