Twinworld - Land of Vision is a computer game by Blue Byte , (published by Ubisoft ), which appeared on the Commodore 64 , Amstrad CPC , Acorn Archimedes , Amiga and the Atari ST .

General

Twinworld is a platform game set in a fantasy world. The character, Ulopa, is a prince and the sole survivor of the royal Cariken family. Ulopa has to cross 23 levels to find the stolen amulet and face the villain Maldur.

The 23 levels are divided into five "worlds", which are characterized by a different design:

  • a "normal" landscape in which you can switch between the upper and lower world (caves)
  • the Forest ( Dark forest )
  • a medieval fortress
  • the swamp
  • and finally the temple of Maldur

The first four worlds each consist of 5 levels, while Maldur's temple consists of 3 levels, one of which is the juxtaposition with Maldur.

The gameplay in Twinworld is relatively simple and comparable to that of other jump 'n' runs from the 80s and 90s. To complete a level, Ulopa has to find part of the stolen amulet and use it to go through the exit door.

Twinworld is still known today for its graphics, but especially for the ingenious music. This was composed by Haiko Ruttmann .

Worlds and levels

Twinworld consists of five "worlds".

Caves

The first world has no name in the game, but is generally referred to as The Caves , because within this world you switch between the upper and the lower world (caves). Further tunnels exist within the caves that lead to the upper world or to other parts of the underworld. Inside the caves, Ulopa can collect diamonds.

Within this world, Ulopa will be killed if he falls off the rocks (instead of entering the caves).

Dark Forest

Dark Forest is made up of trees ten times the size of Ulopa. Unlike the previous level, Ulopa falls back into the lower part of the trees when it falls from the upper part. However, he is killed at too great a height. To get bonus points, Ulopa can collect fruits and flowers in this world.

There are two new extras in the Dark Forest: the eye (invulnerability) and the umbrella (accident-free falling from great heights).

Blackthorn

Blackthorn is a fortress with a moat. As in the previous worlds, Ulopa can switch between fortress and moat with the help of doors. Ulopa can also collect diamonds in Blackthorn.

The moat is the only part of the game that is filled with water. Ulopa moves more slowly in water, although he can still jump. Different types of fish appear as opponents in the moat.

Swamps of Montain

Swamps of Montain (the swamp) is a landscape very similar to the first world. In this case, however, the fall leads from the edge of a platform into the gold mines, which are located below the swamp. Ulopa can collect flowers and fruits in the swamp and gold in the mines.

Maldur's temple

Maldur's temple consists of only three levels, with only two representing normal levels, while the third represents the comparison with Maldur himself.
