Üdü Ẁüdü is the sixth studio album by the French Zeuhl band Magma . It was released on RCA Records in 1976 .
Creation and publication
Bassist Jannick Top returned to Magma in 1976 at the request of Christian Vander and was more involved in the compositions for the sixth album. Bassist Bernard Paganotti and keyboardist Patrick Gauthier , who only played one piece, left the band after Üdü Ẁüdü to found Weidorje .
Üdü Ẁüdü was recorded in Paris in May and June and mixed there in July 1976. CD re-releases on Christian and Stella Vander's label Seventh Records contain a bonus track that should form the basis for the 2009 album Ëmëhntëhtt-Rê .

style
Three of the 6 tracks of the original edition were composed by bassists, and on this album Magmas Zeuhl is more influenced by bass playing than before - which later v. a. should become typical for Japanese Zeuhl bands. More keyboards are now being used, and echoes of Latin American music and space rock are more noticeable than influences from Carl Orff's cantatas. There are also some shorter and less complex pieces. The atmosphere is less influenced by the apocalyptic Kobaïa myth than on the previous albums.
reception
Dominique Leone from Allmusic criticizes the album as a bit incoherent on the one hand and does not count it among Magma's masterpieces, on the other hand considers it often underrated and recommends it to fans of the band. Udo Gerhards from Babyblauen Seiten praises Vanders "precise, powerful, whip-like drumming" and describes the final long track as a "bass riff orgy [...] that is full of energy and hypnotic power". The eclipsed magazine included Üdü Ẁüdü in its list of the 150 most important prog albums.
