Jean-Michel Kajdan (born July 16, 1954 in Paris ) is a French fusion musician ( guitar , vocals , composition ).

Act

Kajdan learned guitar and bass as a self-taught . Initially influenced by British blues rock , then by BB King and Wes Montgomery , he first played in local Parisian bands.

Kajdan released his first album First Step with Manu Katché in 1979 , from which the single "Melissa" was decoupled. He then accompanied musicians such as Jacques Higelin , Michel Jonasz , Eddy Mitchell , Catherine Lara, Enzo Enzo and Maurane . Together with Éric Serra he recorded the soundtracks for the films Subway , Kamikaze and The Big Blue .

For four years he was part of Didier Lockwood's band , with whom he toured around the world. Collaborations with Tony Williams , Jan Hammer , Bob Malach , Gerry Brown , David Sancious , Alphonso Johnson , Babik Reinhardt , Steve Gadd , Max Middleton, Toots Thielemans , John McLaughlin , Gordon Beck , André Ceccarelli , Dee Dee Bridgewater , Fabienne Thibeault and Christian Escoudé .

In 1997, Kajdan toured with Lionel Richie and Omar Hakim as well as with Eddy Mitchell and Eddy Louiss ; he also performed with Larry Carlton at the Montreux Jazz Festival . Since 1999 he has been writing the music for films such as Trait d'Union by Bruno Garcia and the cartoon Wild Instinct by Philippe Leclerc .

In 2003 Kajdan performed with Gaïa in Switzerland with Jeremy Spencer , John Helliwell and Roger Hodgson as well as Justin Hayward . He worked as a producer for Skye . In 2008 he toured with the Yardbirds . From 2011 he was active in his Rough Trio with Laurent David on bass and Jean-Christophe Calvet on drums. With this trio he recorded the albums In a New Light (2013) and OnOff (2015).

In 2013 Kajdan was awarded the Knight's Cross des Ordre des Arts et des Lettres .
