Jacques Mahieux
Jacques Mahieux (born June 24, 1946 in Guise , Département Aisne ; † March 10, 2016 ) was a French jazz musician (drums, vocals, composition).
Live and act
After training at the école normal von Laon , Mahieux first appeared as a clarinetist before turning to drums. In the 1970s he was initially a member of the Dharma Quintet , with which he also recorded ( Mr Robinson , 1970), and soon became a singer. In 1972 he also played rock jazz as a drummer with guitarist Patrice Meyer and blues with champion Jack Dupree . In 1981 he worked in Philippe Deschepper's trio (with bassist Jean-Luc Ponthieux ) on Et Autres noms d'Oiseaux and in 1986 also on Sad Novi Sad . Mahieux has been a member of Henri Texier's quartet for many years since 1982 and can be heard on several Texiers albums (e.g. on La Compañera , Mad Nomad (s) and Paris-Batignolles ). He also played with Louis Sclavis , with the Big Band de Guitares by Gérard Marais and in various formations by Claude Barthélemy , Sylvain Kassap and Michel Godard . With Barthélemy, Kassap, Texier, Marais and Didier Levallet , he founded the collective Zhivaro in 1987 .
From 1995 he played with his own group with Vincent Mascart, Olivier Benoît and Nicolas Mahieux. He continued to work with Annick Nozati , with Anthony Ortega , with Sébastien Texier , with the septet by Jean-Marc Padovani , with Jean-Marie Machado , with Renaud Garcia-Fons (Alborea) and with the Robert Wyatt project Dondestan by John Greaves , Karen Mantler and Hélène Labarrière , with whom he also appeared at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival in 2008 .
