British Bechuanaland (English: British Bechuanaland ) was a British crown colony .

The colony comprised the area south of the Molopo River and the land west of it up to the confluence of the Molopo and the Orange . The British protectorate Bechuanaland , which was established at the same time, bordered to the north and west, and the South African Republic to the south . The area later became part of the South African Union and is now part of the Republic of South Africa .

history

The United States of Stellaland , occupied by British forces under the command of Charles Warren , was annexed on September 30, 1885 and became a colony of British Bechuanaland. The seat of the colonial administration was in Mafikeng . On November 16, 1895, the colony was united with the British Cape Colony .
