The United States of Stellaland ( Dutch Verenigde Staten van Stellaland ) was a short-lived Boer republic . It was created in 1883 by the union of the Stellaland Republic with the Goshen Republic . In 1885 the state was annexed by Great Britain, today the area is part of the South African Northwest Province .

geography

Stellaland covered in 1882 15,490 km² with 20,500 inhabitants (of which 3,000 white people) and Goshen 10,400 km² with 17,000 inhabitants (of which 2,000 were white). Due to the London Treaty of February 27, 1884 between the South African Republic and Great Britain, 2,990 km² in the southeast of Stellaland and 3,610 km² in the east of Goshen had to be ceded to the South African Republic . The capital was Vryburg .

history

On August 7, 1883, the Stellaland Republic united with the Goshen Republic , forming the United States of Stellaland .

After a South African attempt to annex the entire Stellaland failed, British troops under Sir Charles Warren occupied Stellaland in 1885 and annexed the United States of Stellaland on September 30, 1885 as the Crown Colony of Bechuanaland .
