Beñat Achiary

Beñat Achiary (* 1947 in Soule ( Département Pyrénées-Atlantiques ) as Beñat Axiari ) is a French singer , songwriter and improvisation musician . According to Allmusic , he is one of the most creative singers in France.

Career

Achiary initially dealt more intensively with the folklore of the Basque Country . In the second half of the 1980s, he worked with the Ensemble Tour de France , the Louis Sclavis had initiated. There he met the saxophonist Michel Doneda , with whom he worked intensively in the years that followed. In 1999 the two founded a trio with the violinist Alexander Bălănescu and a quartet with the percussionist Lê Quan Ninh and the hurdy-gurdy player Dominique Regef . In addition, he presented various solo albums on which he also presented Basque songs in a contemporary context. Bernard Lubat accompanied him on the album Lili Purprea . He dedicated his solo album The Seven Circles , recorded during the Music Unlimited Festival in 2002 , to Peter Kowald . Achiary also played in groups like Earthly Bird or Hors Ciel , taught at the Bayonne Conservatory and is the artistic director of the Errobiko Festibala d'Itxassou (Festival de la Nive). He can also be heard on albums by Ulrich Gumpert , Jean-Marie Machado , Jean-François Pauvros, Erwan Keravec and Pedro Soler .
