Henry Fourès

Henry Fourès (born May 17, 1948 in Coursan , Aude , France ) is a French composer , musician and music historian . In his work and in his extensive educational work, he is particularly committed to promoting European understanding.

Life

Fourès studied art history at the Paul Valéry University in Montpellier and music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris, as well as medieval music history at the Humboldt University in Berlin and piano at the Vienna Music Academy . From 1977 to 1980 he taught improvisation at the Conservatoire in Pantin , and from 1980 to 1982 medieval music at the University of Toulouse. In 1982 he was appointed Inspector General for Music in the French Ministry of Culture. From 2000 to 2009 he was director of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon . From 2000 to 2010 Henry Fourès headed the Franco-German Ensemble Academy Opus XXI .

His diverse activities include film music, theater and dance pieces, radio features and radio plays for France Culture, HR and WDR . He wrote symphonic, vocal and chamber music works for various ensembles as well as electronic music .
