The Iranian Students News Agency ( Persian خبرگزاری دانشجویان ایران; ISNA , ایسنا ) a news agency run by Iranian university students . It was founded on November 4th, 1999 with the aim of spreading news from the universities of Iran. Today it covers national and international topics. The nearly 1,000 authors and correspondents are mostly students and often volunteers. ISNA is rated as a relatively independent and moderate organization and is also often quoted in Western media.

The chief legal scholar controls ISNA through the head of the state radio and television stations, the student organization Jihad supports ISNA. The founder and first director until autumn 2005 was Abolfazl Fateh , who often had to appear at court, for example in the case of a report about Nobel Prize winner Shirin Ebadi , who also works as a human rights activist.

The web host The Planet unilaterally ended the distribution of the ISNA web server websites in January 2005. According to the ISN, this was not justified and only submitted 48 hours in advance. Iranian officials later accused the United States of ordering the shutdown. This incident raised voices in Iran calling for its own satellite technology to broadcast news.
