Keyvan Chemirani

Keyvan Chemirani (* 1968 in Paris ) is a French percussionist of Iranian origin.

Live and act

Chemirani grew up in Manosque in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and learned the Zarb game from his father Djamchid Chemirani . He first studied mathematics until 1989 before deciding on a musical career. Since 1999 he has formed the Trio Chemirani with his father and brother Bijan Chemirani , with whom he performs worldwide.

He also worked with jazz musicians such as Reto Weber and Albert Mangelsdorff , Omar Sosa , Didier Lockwood , Sylvain Luc , Louis Sclavis and Renaud Garcia-Fons , as well as representatives of world music such as Ballaké Sissoko , Thierry Robin , Erik Marchand , Ross Daly , Françoise Atlan and Juan Carmona together. In 2001 he released his first own album Le Rythme de la parole with musicians from Mali, South India, Morocco, Provence, Brittany and Turkey. At the Festival International des Musiques Nomades he performed with the Mauritanian singer Mohamed Salem Ould Meydah .

In 2006 his album Rythme de la parole II followed with the singers Ali Reza Ghorbani , Nahawa Doumbia and Sudha Raghunathan . 2008 originated with the Indian tabla player Anindo Chatterjee album battements au cœur de l'Orient . He published the album Silk and Salt Melodies (2014) with the Louis Sclavis Quartet . In 2015 he recorded the CD Dawar with the Trio Chemirani at Harmonia Mundi . Together with the cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras , the lyric player Sokratis Sinopoulos and his brother, the cross-over album Thrace: Sunday Morning Sessons was created in 2015 . His latest album Keyvan Chemirani & The Rhythm Alchemy was released in 2019.

Chemirani is also active in the field of early music . He has performed with Dominique Vellard's Ensemble Gilles Binchois , recorded the Psalms of David by Heinrich Schütz with La Chapelle rhénane under the direction of Benoît Haller and took part in the performance of Michelangelo Falvetti's oratorio Il diluvio universale by Leonardo García at the Festival d'Ambronay 2010 Alarcóns Cappella Mediterranea with.
