Alexander Buhl

Alexander Bühl (* 1986 ) is a German jazz musician ( tenor and soprano saxophone , clarinet , composition ).

Live and act

Bühl studied jazz saxophone at the Nuremberg University of Music from 2006 to 2012 with Hubert Winter , Steffen Schorn and Klaus Graf . He completed his diploma (as well as a master’s) with distinction. He then studied composition at the Stuttgart Music Academy with Rainer Tempel . Even before studying in Nuremberg, he played in the Baden-Württemberg State Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Bernd Konrad ; he won a Škoda scholarship , with which he was accepted into the Federal Jazz Orchestra , with which he made tours to South Africa and India.

In 2008 Bühl played with the Lukas Brenner Trio in the final of the Biberach Jazz Prize . In 2011 he reached the finals of the composition competition Jazz Comp Graz with his composition Meerklang . In the same year he was on a three-week tour of the Philippines and Palau with the Cologne band Hot Brownies . In 2012 he founded the Alexander Bühl Sextet , with which he has since released two albums. In 2016 he also founded his concert jazz band .

Bühl is a permanent member of the Tobias Becker Big Band , the Gibnod Jazz Orchestra and the Groove Legend Orchestra . As a guest he repeatedly plays with the Sunday Night Orchestra , the Thilo Wolf Bigband and the Jazzfactory Orchestra . Bühl's own compositions can be found on the albums The Best from Southwest of the SWR Big Band , Lifestream (Tobias Becker Bigband) and Volume 9 - Originals (Bundesjazzorchester). Bühl can also be heard as an interpreter on albums by the Federal Jazz Orchestra ( Calcutta Ending ), by Frédéric Rabold , Gee Hye Lee , Carlos Reisch and Johannes Ludwig .

In 2018, Bühl was awarded the Jazz Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg , because he was able to "inspire the audience and the professional world through gripping improvisations and interesting, exciting compositions."
