Jewish cemetery (Oderberg)

The Oderberg Jewish Cemetery is located in the town of Oderberg in the Barnim district in the northeast of Brandenburg . As a Jewish cemetery , it is an architectural monument .

The cemetery is located on the “Mönkefeld” on the southern slope of the uckermärkischen heights, which drop steeply towards the Oder . Almost 40 tombstones , some only as fragments, have been preserved in the 1153 m² cemetery . They date from 1848 to 1933. The oldest preserved grave site is that of the Israel Good Heart (1809–1848).

The Jewish cemetery was laid out around 1700. During the Nazi era , the cemetery was desecrated and the tombstones thrown in a heap. In 1944 the property was forced to be sold to the city for 100 RM . After 1945 the burial site was repaired - as far as possible - and placed under monument protection. From 1993 to 1995 the cemetery was repaired with the help of generous donations and a new fence was installed.
