Tobias Becker (jazz musician)

Tobias Becker (born November 6, 1984 in Böblingen ) is a German jazz musician , pianist , composer and arranger .

Career

Tobias Becker studied jazz piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart until 2012 , where he received composition lessons. Since 2015 he has been a lecturer for arranging and jazz piano at the University of Church Music in Tübingen and head of the jazz / pop department at the Böblingen Music School.

After studying jazz, he was invited to the internationally advertised Arrangers Workshop, a master class under the direction of Vince Mendoza , in Hilversum ( NL ). He is also the recipient of the Young Lions Jazz Award.

Since then, Tobias Becker has written for various artists from the fields of jazz, pop and entertainment such as Richard Bona , Max Mutzke , Helge Schneider and Giovanni Zarrella . He worked u. a. for the SWR Big Band , the Metropole Orchestra , the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen or the State Police Orchestra Baden-Württemberg .

As a pianist, arranger and musical director, he is responsible for various studio and live productions. These include the jazz / pop crossover production Vintage Vegas with a big band or the Mantel Gala by and with comedian Ernst Mantel .

Since 2005 Tobias Becker has been the director of the Tobias Becker Bigband , which consists of 17 artists from all over Germany and Switzerland . The debut album Life Stream won the quarterly award of the Deutsche Schallplattenkritik in 2013 . Tobias Becker won second place in the 2018 Jazz Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg behind Alexander Bühl .
