history

The roots of the Baden-Württemberg State Police Orchestra go back to the beginning of the last century. Even then there was a police band in Stuttgart. However, this was only a recreational music corps. Polizeimusik Stuttgart was officially founded in 1920 and was then directed by music director Carl Bennig. This police corps existed until 1940, then the Second World War forced a break. Around four months after the end of the war, the former head music master Walter Kiesow was commissioned to re-establish a police music corps, which came together on October 1, 1945 as the first music corps in post-war Germany . At the beginning of the winter of 1945/46 the orchestra was able to play and soon there were a number of events at which the Stuttgart Police Music Corps performed.

After the war, the orchestra called itself the Police Music Corps of the City of Stuttgart and was assigned to the municipal police. From 1960 there was an independent department within the police organization. In 1973 the local police, including the Police Music Corps, became the responsibility of the country and placed under the riot police. This led to the renaming in Police Music Corps Baden-Württemberg . In 1976 112 events were supported musically. In 2010 the Police Music Corps was renamed the Baden-Württemberg State Police Orchestra and reassigned to the Stuttgart Police Headquarters.

Ensembles

The members of the Police Music Corps Baden-Württemberg are fully trained musicians, mostly with degrees.

The music corps also forms ensembles from the 35 musicians . If necessary, these play on official occasions of the state authorities. They frame festive musical events such as B. the inauguration of new office buildings or the change of office of heads of authorities. The ensembles are also used at other events that serve, for example, police public relations work. In individual cases there are also concerts of their own.

Dissolution debate

In 2013, the Baden-Württemberg Court of Auditors requested the orchestra to be dissolved. The police have no cultural mandate and therefore do not need a professional orchestra. The Ministry of the Interior initially rejected the dissolution, but the orchestra's orchestra was considerably reduced in size.
