history

After the police music in Brandenburg came to a standstill due to the Second World War, the Potsdam Police Orchestra was founded in 1949, followed by the Frankfurt (Oder) Police Orchestra in 1958. In the GDR , the orchestras existed as the local music corps of the People's Police. After the political change in 1990, the orchestras went on many concert tours, including to Canada, Holland, France, Austria and Poland. In addition to numerous radio productions and television appearances in ORB, ZDF and ARD, several CDs and a video were produced.

By resolution of the state government, both orchestras merged in January 1998 to form the Brandenburg State Police Orchestra. The director of the Potsdam Police Orchestra, music director Peter Brünsing, took over the management . Jürgen Bludowsky, who previously directed the orchestra in Frankfurt, became his deputy.

In 1999 the merged orchestra recorded its first jointly produced CD with titles by the Potsdam composer Carl Teike . From 1999 the orchestra gave numerous concerts in the country, including a concert at the Plassenburg in Bavaria, took part in an international police music festival in Switzerland, gave the 90th anniversary of police music in Vienna and the 130th birthday of the Viennese Security guard concerts in Vienna and guest performances in France .

At the turn of the millennium , the orchestra played in the New Year's Eve Musikantenstadel on Austrian television. Further concerts followed at the EXPO 2000 and at the opening of the Federal Garden Show in Potsdam.

On June 26, 2002 music director Peter Brünsing passed the baton on to his previous deputy Jürgen Bludowsky after 20 years as conductor and conductor, who officially took over the orchestra from July 1, 2002. In May 2003 the CD “Brillante Märsche re-discovered” with historical marches was released, followed in the same year by a concert tour to Alsace . On April 1, 2004, Peter Vierneisel became the new deputy director of the orchestra. In 2005 and 2006 a total of three more CDs followed.

On February 1, 2006, Peter Vierneisel took over the leadership of the State Police Orchestra and held this position until the end of 2010. During this time, two more CDs were produced. Jürgen Bludowsky then temporarily took over the musical direction again until Christian Köhler took up his position on June 1, 2011 as Germany's youngest police orchestra conductor. Among other things, he introduced his own subscription concert series for the State Police Orchestra in the Nikolaisaal. On October 30, 2012, the orchestra performed the "Queen Symphony" in the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic with over 250 members from the Berlin Choir Association .
