Hiram Alexis Burgos (born August 4, 1987 in Cayey , Puerto Rico ) is a Puerto Rican baseball player in Major League Baseball . He currently plays for the Milwaukee Brewers in the pitching position.
Career
Burgos attended the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School and Bethune-Cookman College . He was elected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the sixth round of the 2009 MLB Draft . He was voted Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2012 after playing a 10-4 record with various farm teams and a 1.95 ERA in 28 games (including 27 starts). He threw a total of 153 strikeouts and 49 walkes. He was also elected Brewers Minor League Pitcher for April, June and July. The Brewers then added him to their 40-man roster. In early 2013 he was appointed to the Puerto Rican squad for the 2013 World Baseball Classic and won the silver medal with his team after losing 0-3 in the final against the Dominican Republic . He made his MLB debut on April 20, 2013 against the Chicago Cubs , after being added to the active squad on April 19, 2013. He pitched his first game from the start on April 26, 2013 against the Los Angeles Dodgers . In May 2013, Burgos had serious problems and gave up numerous runs. In the first game against the Cincinnati Reds , he gave ten runs in three innings. In the second game against the Pittsburgh Pirates there were three runs in five innings, where he made eight hits. Shortly after the game, he was put on the Disabled List by the Brewers because of a shoulder injury .
