Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame
The Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame is a US non-profit organization founded in 1995 (Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame Foundation), which brings together personalities (band leaders, musicians, arrangers, etc.) from big band and jazz music honors by being included in their virtual " Hall of Fame ". Up to 2008 around 200 people had received this award. A corresponding planned museum with concert hall in Palm Springs has not yet been realized. It is based in Oceanside , California . They develop jazz teaching programs, award scholarships and maintain a database of jazz musicians. They maintain their own “Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame Orchestra”.
The award has nothing to do with the “International Jazz Hall of Fame”, which is backed by a “Charlie Parker Foundation” in Kansas City , or with the American Jazz Hall of Fame of Rutgers University / New Jersey Jazz Society. There are also local Jazz Halls of Fame, such as the New England Jazz Hall of Fame, and the Downbeat Jazz Hall of Fame of the City Jazz Club in Orlando , Florida, which is owned by Universal Studios.
