Lovebugs is a Swiss music group from Basel , whose music can be stylistically assigned to Britpop .

Band history

Their story began in 1992 with a note in a record store: Drummers wanted. It met Sebastian Hausmann (bass), Adrian Sieber (guitar and vocals) and Julie Lagger (drums). Adrian then sent the group to the “Basler Bandcontest”, a talent competition. The band called themselves «Lovebugs» and was invited to the live final round, they won and were allowed to produce a CD.

A year later, drummer Julie had to leave. Sebastian and Adrian recorded the first Lovebugs CD called «Fluff» together . Immediately afterwards, the new drummer Simon Ramseier joined the band.

In 1995 Lovebugs went on tour. They also produced their second album and performed abroad for the first time. In 1996 the first hit parade album "Lovebugs" was released, which then entered the top 40 with the single "Fantastic" . In 1998 guitarist Thomas Rechberger joined the band.

In 2000 the band then produced the fourth album “Transatlantic Flight”, which helped the Lovebugs to break through: The album rose to number three in Switzerland and sold out concert halls.

The band recorded their fifth album “Awaydays” in 2001 and entered the Swiss album charts at number one in April. Sebastian got out of the Lovebugs to devote himself to his glam rock project Fucking Beautiful . In his place, Florian Senn on bass and Stefan Wagner on keyboard joined the Lovebugs.

In 2003 the album “13 Songs With a View” was released and placed 8th on the Swiss album charts. The next successful album, called “Naked”, was recorded live unplugged and was released in 2005. The disc went straight to number one on the Swiss charts a. The band worked closely with music producer Chris von Rohr to prepare this CD .

In June 2006 the Lovebugs released the album "In Every Waking Moment", which also entered the Swiss album charts at number 1. The two singles “The Key” (17th place) and “Avalon”, a duet with Lene Marlin (10th place), were also in the charts for a few weeks.

The most played songs include “Fantastic”, “Angel Heart”, “Under My Skin”, “Bitter Moon”, “Music Makes My World Go Round”, “Flavor of the Day”, “A Love Like Tides” and “Everybody Knows I Love You » .

Then the Lovebugs took a break, which singer Adrian Sieber used to implement a long-planned solo project under the name Adrian Solo .

In May 2009 the Lovebugs competed for Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the title song of their current album "The Highest Heights" , but did not make it to the finals, as they only landed 14th with 15 points.
