The 24th Selecția Națională took place on March 1st, 2020 and was the Romanian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam ( Netherlands ). The singer Roxen , selected internally by TVR , presented five songs.
In the end, the song Alcohol You , which was written by Ionuț Armaș and Breyan Isaac and composed by Ionuț Armaș and Viky Red, won. The song received most of the jury and televoting votes.

After Romania always used the program to select artist and song together, part of the Romanian contribution was determined internally for the first time in 2020. The Romanian interpreter was selected internally by TVR . A special jury helped select the interpreter based on voice, artistry, empathy and expressiveness. On February 11, 2020, TVR then introduced the singer Roxen as an interpreter. On March 1, 2020, the latter presented five contributions in the Selecția Națională , with 50% of the winning song being determined by jury voting and 50% by televoting.
Choice of contribution
The songs that were presented on the show were determined from a songwriting camp . This took place in January 2020, where the best Romanian composers wrote songs for Roxen. A jury consisting of composers, songwriters, musicians, television and radio producers and music directors then selected the best five songs from all the songs in the camp. The five songs were determined under the aspects of sound, originality, different genres and message.
On February 21, 2020, the five titles and short excerpts of the songs were published.

On February 29, 2020, TVR announced the five jury members who determined 50% of the final result. The members are Luminița Anghel , Crina Mardare, Alin Opera, Edward Sandra and Andrei Tudor. Anghel, Mardare and Tudor were already on the jury to select the singer Roxen.

The broadcast took place on March 1, 2020. A total of five contributions were presented by Roxen .
As a pause filler Loreen appeared with her song Euphoria . The Norwegian participant for 2020 Ulrikke also performed with her song Attention and the Cypriot participant for 2020 Sandro , who covered the Cypriot contributions from 2018 ( Fuego ) and 2019 ( Replay ).
