The 21st Selecția Națională took place on March 5, 2017 and was the Romanian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev ( Ukraine ).
format
The Romanian preliminary decision in 2017 was held as part of two broadcasts. In the semifinals there were 15 entries, ten of which qualified for the final. The ten finalists were selected by a jury. In the final, however, no jury was used, instead pure televoting determined which of the ten finalists was allowed to represent Romania at the ESC 2017.
Choice of contribution
Between December 20, 2016 and January 22, 2017, composers had the opportunity to submit a contribution to the Romanian television station TVR. A total of 84 entries were submitted, which took part in the live audition on January 27, 28 and 29, 2017. 15 entries qualified for the competition. The auditions were broadcast on various Romanian TV channels between February 5th and 11th. The singer Lora withdrew her entry I Know from the competition. The 15 participants were published on February 12, 2017.
Semifinals
The semi-finals took place on February 26, 2017 at Studioul Pangratti in Bucharest . The jury - consisting of Andrei Tudor, Adrian Romcescu and the former ESC participants Paula Seling , Ovidiu Cernăuțeanu and Luminița Anghel - decided which ten entries qualified for the final.

The final took place on March 5, 2017 at Studioul Pangratti in Bucharest . Ilinca feat. Alex Florea sat down with their song Yodel It! against the competition and drove for Romania to the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev.
