The 22nd Selecția Națională 2018 was the Romanian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon (Portugal). The final took place on February 25, 2018, in which the group The Humans won with the song Goodbye .

concept

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Romania, TVR announced a large-scale preliminary decision. In total, similar to the Swedish Melodifestivalen , there were five semi-finals and one final in six different Romanian cities in January and February 2018. The final took place on February 25, 2018. In the semifinals, a five-person jury decided on the three performers who qualified for the final. 15 participants then competed there who had to face a televoting vote.

Choice of contribution

Between November 15 and December 15, 2018, composers had the opportunity to submit a contribution to the Romanian television station TVR. A total of 72 entries were submitted. As part of an audition on December 19 and 20, 2017, all 72 performers performed their songs in front of a five-person jury. It consisted of the following members:

60 of the 72 entries qualified for the five semi-finals, which were presented on December 22, 2018. The auditions were broadcast on January 12, 13 and 14, 2018 on TVR 1 and the repeat on January 13, 14 and 15, 2018 on TVR HD.

On January 9, 2018, TVR announced that Freia and her song Fix Me had to be disqualified as the song was released in China before September 1, 2017. Tomer Cohen moved up with his song Baby You're the Only One .

First semi-final

Teatrul Municipal "Maior Gheorghe Pastia"

The first semi-final (Semifinala 1) took place on January 21, 2018, 9:10 p.m. ( EET ) in Focșani. The show was opened by Luminița Anghel. She sang the song Hora din Moldova , the Moldovan contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow . She was accompanied by the Țara Vrancei Folk Ensemble. During a 30-minute break, the band Pasărea Rock performed. The moderator of the Grennroom was Anca Medeleanu.

Second semi-final

National Theater and Opera House Timișoara

The second semi-final (Semifinala 2) took place on January 28, 2018, 9:10 p.m. ( EET ) in Timișoara. The show was opened by Ricardo Caria. He sang the song Amar Pelos Dois , the winning entry of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev . At the end of the show he sang the song Lisboa . The band Cargo, Lavinia Răducanu and Neda Ukraden performed as fillers . Doriana Talpeș moderated this time in the Greenroom. The city contributed 200,000 RON (43,000 euros ) to the financing.

Teatrul National "Marin Sorescu"

The third semi-final (Semifinala 3) took place on February 4, 2018, 9:10 p.m. ( EET ) in Craiova. The pause fillers of this semi-final were BiBi, FreeStay, Dan Helciug and Mihaela Alexa. The municipality contributed 190,379 RON (40,795 euros ) to the financing. Alina Șerban moderated in the Greenroom.
