Ovidiu Anton

Ovidiu Anton (born February 24, 1983 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian singer-songwriter . He was supposed to represent Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm .

life and career

Ovidiu Anton stood on stage for the first time at the age of six. He studied Canto , classical guitar and piano at the Bucharest Conservatory. His interest in rock music led to the formation of the rock band Carpe Diem in 1998, which toured Romania and the neighboring countries for four years.

In 2003 he won second place at the Mamaia Festival in the interpretation category with his self-composed song Vreau (Ich will) and between 2004 and 2006 was the best of his year at Școala Vedetelor , the second season of the TVR- produced program. In 2005 he represented Romania at the Cerbul de Aur Festival in Brașov and was the front man of the band Pasager from 2008 to May 2012, with whom he gave hundreds of concerts and, among other things, at the Romanian preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Oslo with the song Running Out Of Time participated. He returned to Selecția Națională in 2012 ( I Walk Alone ), 2013 ( Run Away With Me ) and 2015 ( Still Alive ), but did not win.

In 2016 he took part again and won both the semifinals on March 4th and the final show on March 6th, 2016. Therefore, he should represent Romania with his song Moment Of Silence in the second semifinals of the ESC on May 12, 2016. On April 22nd, however, the EBU announced that it had excluded Romania because of a deadline on April 21st for the payment of 16 million Swiss francs.
