Tanja Soland

Tanja Soland (born September 8, 1975 ) is a Swiss lawyer and politician ( SP ). She's since 2020 Councilor of the Canton of Basel-Stadt .

Life

Soland grew up in a blended family in Binningen and Basel . Her father was a trained stereotype and later a worker in the Basel building department and a trade unionist . Her mother died when she was nine years old. Soland obtained his diploma in psychiatric nursing in 1998 and then worked as a nurse at the University Psychiatric Clinic Basel (UPK) until 2004 . In 2001 she made the federal Matura . She then studied in Basel Law and was from 2004 to 2006 and Managing Director of Democratic lawyers Basel (DJS Basel) . In 2006 she completed her studies with a licentiate . She then worked as a research assistant from 2007 to 2012 and, from 2008, a lecturer in criminal law at the Law Faculty of the University of Basel . In 2011 she received her doctorate and also passed the bar exam. She has been working as a lawyer since 2012.

Soland was a major councilor in Basel-Stadt from 2006 to 2019 . She presided over the Election Preparation Commission from 2009 to 2013 and the Justice, Security and Sports Commission from 2013 to 2018. From 2009 to 2013 she was also parliamentary group president of the SP. On October 20, 2019, she was elected to the government council in the first ballot as the successor to the resigned Eva Herzog (SP). She took up the position of Finance Director on February 1, 2020.
