Eva Herzog (born December 25, 1961 in Basel , legal domicile there ) is a Swiss historian , cultural manager and politician ( SP ).

Life

From 1981 , Herzog studied history , economics and Spanish at the Universities of Basel and Santiago de Compostela and graduated in 1988 from Hans Rudolf Guggisberg with a licentiate . Her unpublished licentiate thesis deals with a topic on the agricultural history of Spain in the 18th century ( the "Academia de Agricultura del Reino de Galicia" and her project for the development of the "montes" ). In 1989 she was a member of the management of the Third World Stores Association in the Basel region. From 1990 to 1994 she worked as a research assistant at the Baselbiet History Research Center. In 1994/1995 she was the coordinator of the association Frauenstadtrundgang Basel . In 1995 she did her doctorate with a thesis on the history of women's gymnastics in the canton of Basel-Landschaft . From 1995 to 1999, Herzog was a member of the management team and management of the Kulturwerkstatt Kaserne in Basel. In 2000 she worked as a freelance cultural organizer and from 2001 to 2004 as a research assistant in the Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Basel.

From 1999 to 2003, Herzog was a member of the Constitutional Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. From 2001 to 2005 she was a member of the Grand Council and was a member of the Education and Culture Commission. In 2004/2005 she chaired the SP parliamentary group in the Grand Council. Since 2005, she has been Ueli Vischer's successor to the government councilor of the canton of Basel-Stadt and head of the finance department. In the 2019 federal elections , she was elected to the Council of States in the first ballot on October 20 .

Eva Herzog is in a relationship and has two children.

In 2015 she was awarded the alumni prize of the Alumni Association of the University of Basel, which was awarded for the first time.
