51st legislative period of the Swiss Federal Assembly
The 51st legislative period of the Swiss Federal Assembly began on December 2, 2019. It will end on December 4, 2023 with the constituent session of the 52nd legislative period . The meeting place for the National Council and the Council of States is the Bundeshaus in Bern .
Sessions
As a rule, there are four three-week sessions per calendar year. In the event of a high workload or due to extraordinary events, the councils can be convened for additional sessions (special sessions or extraordinary sessions).
On March 15, 2020, the spring session was canceled after two weeks due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus . This was an extraordinary decision.

- ↑ The count of the legislative period is based on the corresponding count for the National Council. As the representative of the cantons (estates), the Council of States itself has no legislative periods. It has been meeting permanently since 1848 and for this reason has no senior committee.
