The Lega dei Ticinesi ( German League of Ticino , French Ligue des Tessinois , colloquially called Lega in all language regions ) is a political party in Switzerland . It was founded in 1991 as a right-wing or right-wing populist protest party and is only active in the canton of Ticino .
history
The party was founded by the entrepreneur and former FDP supporter Giuliano Bignasca and the journalist Flavio Maspoli . In 1991, when Flavio Maspoli and Marco Borradori were founded, they managed to occupy two seats in the National Council and one seat in the Council of States with Giorgio Morniroli .
The Lega is against joining the European Union and in favor of a strict asylum policy. A particular annoyance for the party are the federal employees in Bern , who allegedly do not do enough for the interests of the canton of Ticino. After initially quick success in the home canton , the rise weakened. The party is represented in the national parliament by Norman Gobbi as a member of the SVP parliamentary group.
The Lega was able to keep its seat in the Ticino State Council in the cantonal elections in 2003 thanks to Marco Borradori, who was popular among the population . On the occasion of the State Council elections on April 1, 2007, Marco Borradori achieved the best result of all candidates with more than 81,000 votes. In the State Council elections on April 10, 2011, Borradori again achieved the best result of all candidates with 81,754 votes; Since the Lega also replaced the FDP (25.0%) as the party with the highest number of votes for the first time with 29.8% of the votes, Norman Gobbi, another Lega member, was able to move into the cantonal government.
The party's subsection for the younger generation (Giovani Leghisti) is led by Francesco Lovera in Lugano .
Politically, the Lega dei Ticinesi is close to the Swiss People's Party , the Auto Party and its Italian ( “Padan” ) “sister party” Lega Nord . However, in contrast to the Lega Nord, the Ticino lawyers have no intention of secession .
In March 2013, co-founder and president Giuliano Bignasca died . State Councilor Michele Barra died in October 2013.
