Marco Borradori (born June 6, 1959 in Sorengo ; † August 11, 2021 in Lugano ), entitled to live in Gordola , was a Swiss politician ( Lega ). He was a state councilor and national councilor, and from 2013 until his death mayor of Lugano.

Life

Borradori grew up in Lugano as the son of the influential lawyer and notary Elio Borradori (1927-2016). He studied law at the University of Zurich .

From November 25, 1991 to April 11, 1995 he was a member of the National Council. From April 1992 to April 1995 he was a councilor in Lugano. From April 2, 1995, Borradori was Ticino State Councilor until 2015 (which he presided over in 1999, 2003, 2008, 2012) and was re-elected four times. He was head of the building, transport and environmental department. In the cantonal elections on April 1, 2007, he achieved the best result of all candidates with over 81,000 votes. He was re-elected in the 2011 elections.

In April 2013 he took part in the elections of the city government of Lugano and was elected city president to succeed Giorgio Giudici . Therefore, he resigned from the cantonal government. He was succeeded by Michele Barra .

On August 10, 2021, Borradori suffered cardiac arrest while jogging, of which he died a day later at the age of 62. He left a daughter.
