Ermenegildo Rossi

Ermenegildo Rossi (born November 27, 1827 in Sessa ; † January 5, 1895 in Lugano ) was a Swiss lawyer , publicist , politician and Ticino Grand Councilor , State Councilor and Council of States of the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP).

Life

Ermenegildo Rossi was born to the landowner Pietro Rossi von Sessa and Rosa Trevioli. He studied law at the University of Geneva (1850) and at the University of Pavia and received his doctorate in 1852. He returned to Lugano and worked as a lawyer and notary (1855-1883); from 1883 to 1895 he was a judge at the Court of Appeal (President 1887 to 1892).

As an important member of the liberal-conservative party, he was Ticino Grand Council (1867–1869 and 1875–1877, President 1877), twice State Council (1869–1873 and 1877–1882) and Council of States (1875–1877). From 1877 to 1895 he was a member of the Gotthard Railway Board of Directors . In 1858 he published legal publications and the Italian translation of the Histoire de la Nation suisse by Alexandre Daguet.
