Domenico Bazzi

Domenico Bazzi (born June 9, 1806 in Brissago , † August 11, 1871 in Turin ), son of Giovanni, was a Swiss engineer , politician , Ticino Grand Councilor and State Councilor of the Free Democratic Party (FDP).

Life

Domenico Bazzi was born the son of Giovanni von Brissago. He did his PhD in mathematics in Turin. He was an engineer. In 1837 he was expelled from Piedmont because he was involved in a Mazzini plot against the king and was returning to his country of origin. As a politician, he was a member of the Ticino Grand Council from 1839 to 1852, from 1863 to 1865 and Council of State (1852–1863 and 1865–1871) and was actively involved in the political events of the canton. In 1839, 1841 and 1855 he always advocated liberal and radical ideas.

As a statesman, he devoted himself in particular to economic issues and supported the need to build the infrastructure essential for the canton of Ticino. He was a staunch advocate of the construction of the Gotthard Railway and supported the initiatives of the Swiss minister in Italy Giovanni Battista Pioda within the government . He was a member of the Ticino Chamber of Commerce and a number of other memberships, such as the Società Demopedeutica , an association that promotes popular education, and the teachers' association.
