Giovan Battista Pioda

Giovan Battista Pioda (born December 13, 1786 in Locarno , † June 29, 1845 in Lugano ) was a Swiss lawyer , military , politician and Ticino and State Councilor .

biography

Giovanni Battista was born the son of Giovan Battista, a merchant from Locarno, and Francesca Bustelli. He began as a merchant and served 1816-1820 and 1822 as a major in a Swiss regiment that had surrendered in Holland. He returned home in 1824 and was inspector of the 2nd Ticino division, then chief instructor of the Ticino militias, 1828 Federal Lieutenant Colonel, Ticino Grand Council 1814–1815, 1820–1830, 1839–1845.

He was the delegate of the Diet in 1826, 1828 and 1833 and 1824-1838 Council of State . Until the constitutional reform of 1830, he was politically in the shadow of the governor Giovanni Battista Quadri . He founded the Ticino rifle club in 1832.

His son of the same name, Giovanni Battista Pioda, was a federal councilor and Swiss envoy in Italy. His grandson of the same name, Giovanni Battista Pioda, was a Swiss diplomat and was, among other things, the Swiss envoy to Italy.
