Andrea Caglioni

Andrea Caglioni (born May 14, 1763 in Ascona ; † October 23, 1825 on the Gotthard Pass ) was a Swiss lawyer , politician , Ticino Grand Councilor , Councilor of State and Landammann .

biography

Andrea Caglioni was born as the son of Filippo von Ascona. After attending the Collegium Helveticum in Milan , he studied law in Freiburg im Breisgau . He was a lawyer and governor of the bailiff of Locarno . In 1798 he was secretary of the provisional government of Locarno, then president of the administrative chamber of the canton of Lugano .

From 1803 to 1825 he was the Ticino Grand Councilor (1813, 1815, 1818 President), from 1803 to 1809 and from 1811 to 1823 he was a member of the cantonal government. With a moderate demeanor, he was appellate judge from 1809 to 1811 and from 1817 to 1818 Ticino mayor. He was eleven times Ticino envoy to the Federal Diet and headed numerous missions abroad.
