Tomaso Pagnamenta

Tomaso Pagnamenta (born June 24, 1855 in Claro TI ; † December 13, 1930 in Bellinzona ) was a Swiss lawyer , politician , Ticino State Councilor and National Councilor of the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP).

Life

Tomaso Pagnamenta was born to the landowner Felice Pagnamenta and Maria Molo. He studied at the University of Turin , where he received his doctorate in 1890, then returned to Locarno . In the beginning he worked in the law firm of Gioachimo Respini . Later he was a lawyer and notary in Bellinzona. From 1883 to 1889 he was President of the District Court of Bellinzona and Riviera , from 1911 to 1914 and 1920 to 1930 appellate judge .

As a member of the Conservative Party he was in the Ticino Grand Council from 1889–1901, 1905–1911, 1917–1920 (President 1890) and in 1891 he was a member of the cantonal constitutional council. From 1901 to 1905 he was a State Councilor and headed the Interior Department. In 1919 he became a national councilor.

Within the Conservative Party, he was one of the representatives of a new, moderate orientation in favor of the principle of collegiality in the cantonal government.
