48th legislative period of the Swiss Federal Assembly

The 48th legislative period of the Swiss Federal Assembly lasted from December 3, 2007 to December 5, 2011. The meeting place for the National Council and the Council of States was the Federal Palace in Bern .

Sessions

As a rule, four three-week sessions per calendar year take place in the Federal Assembly. In the event of a high workload or due to extraordinary events, the councils can be convened for additional sessions (special sessions or extraordinary sessions). In the 48th legislative period, the following special sessions were held in addition to the regular sessions:

    1. The count of the legislative period is based on the corresponding count for the National Council. As the representative of the cantons (estates), the Council of States itself has no legislative periods. It has been meeting permanently since 1848 and for this reason has no senior committee.
