48th legislative period of the Swiss Federal Assembly
The 48th legislative period of the Swiss Federal Assembly lasted from December 3, 2007 to December 5, 2011. The meeting place for the National Council and the Council of States was the Federal Palace in Bern .
Sessions
As a rule, four three-week sessions per calendar year take place in the Federal Assembly. In the event of a high workload or due to extraordinary events, the councils can be convened for additional sessions (special sessions or extraordinary sessions). In the 48th legislative period, the following special sessions were held in addition to the regular sessions:

Changes during the legislature
- NR Christian Waber (EDU / BE) resigned from the SVP parliamentary group on December 18, 2007 and is non-attached.
- SR Fritz Schiesser (FDP / GL) was sworn in as President of the ETH Board on March 3, 2008 . In his place, Pankraz Friday was elected to the Council of States.
- Spin-off of the BDP from the SVP from June 2008:
- NR Brigitta Gadient and Hansjörg Hassler were expelled from the SVP on June 16 with the BDP Graubünden .
- NR Hans Grunder and Ursula Haller as well as SR Werner Luginbühl transferred from SVP to BDP Bern on June 21.
- NR Ruth Genner was elected to the Zurich government and made room for Katharina Prelicz-Huber in the National Council in autumn .
- NR Hugo Fasel was replaced by Marie-Thérèse Weber-Gobet at the beginning of the 2008 winter session .
- At the end of 2008, the SP National Councilor Werner Marti resigned. Martin Landolt (BDP) was elected to replace Marti on February 8, 2009 .
- NR Urs Hofmann was replaced by Max Chopard-Acklin at the beginning of the 2009 spring session .
- NR Ueli Maurer was replaced by Ulrich Schlüer at the beginning of the 2009 spring session .
- At the end of May 2010, the CVP Council of States from Uri, Hansruedi Stadler, resigned. Markus Stadler (glp) was elected as a replacement on April 25, 2010 .
- NR Jean-Henri Dunant was replaced by Sebastian Frehner at the beginning of the 2010 winter session .
- NR Johann Schneider-Ammann was replaced by Peter Flück after his election to the Federal Council .
- After the election of SR Simonetta Sommaruga to the Federal Council, the voters of the canton of Bern elected NR Adrian Amstutz (SVP) as their successor on March 6, 2011 .
- As a result of his election to the Council of States, NR Adrian Amstutz was replaced by Thomas Fuchs at the beginning of the 2011 summer session.
- As a result of his election to the State Council of the Canton of Ticino, NR Norman Gobbi was replaced by Lorenzo Quadri at the beginning of the 2011 summer session .
- NR André Daguet was replaced by Corrado Pardini at the beginning of the 2011 summer session .
